Kathryn Shailer has spent the past forty years as a teacher, writer, researcher, and  administrator in the university sector. She holds a BA (with Honors) in International Relations and German from Denison University, a small liberal arts college in Ohio; studied in Munich, Germany and travelled for two years; and earned her MA and PhD from Princeton University, with a dissertation on German and Danish Romanticism. Her publications include multiple articles on German Romanticism, German cinema, and a range of topics in higher education.

Her work experience includes faculty and administrative appointments at the University of Alberta, Western University, Simon Fraser University, University of Winnipeg, Ontario College of Art & Design University, Mount Royal University, and Alberta University of the Arts. She is also an alum of the Humber Summer Workshop in Creative Writing and the Banff Writers’ Studio.

Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, she is currently at home in both the Fraser Valley of BC and southwest Ontario. She has two daughters and three grandchildren,
